Zhirinovsky Offers North Korea Praise

TOKYO -- Ultranationalist leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky met North Korean officials Monday and revealed he was a keen student of Korean socialism, Pyongyang's official news agency reported.

Zhirinovsky, heading a delegation of his Liberal Democratic Party to Pyongyang, had friendly talks with Korean Workers' Party officials on "issues of mutual concern", the Korean Central News Agency said.

It quoted Zhirinovsky as expressing enthusiasm for Kim Il-sung, saying, "We have deeply studied works of respected comrade Kim Il-sung and comrade Kim Jong-il from long ago."

Zhirinovsky has praised the former North Korean leader before. Following Kim's death, the Russian politician enthused about the country he ruled."In North Korea, no one suffers from hunger, there is no unemployment or homelessness," he said. (Reuters, MT)
