Yemenis to Hold Talks

DUBAI-- Yemen's victorious government has agreed reluctantly to attend talks in Geneva on Thursday with its defeated southern rivals under a UN plan to bring lasting peace to the Arabian peninsula state, diplomats said.

The United Nations said the southern side would be represented by Haider Abu-Bakr al-Attas and Abdullah al-Asnaj, who were respectively prime minister and foreign minister of the secessionist southern state based in Aden before its collapse July 7.

One diplomat said Sanaa had agreed to the talks because it did not want to appear to be bucking the will of the international community and to end its isolation.
