Yemen Truce Broken

ADEN-- Northern Yemeni forces closing in on Aden battled with its southern defenders on Friday, shattering the latest ceasefire in the country's two months of civil war. Military officials said the fronts were quiet overnight, but that fighting flared at 7.30 A.M. local time beyond Dar Saad north of Aden with an apparent northern push towards the area about 10 kilometers (six miles) from Aden's center. There was no word from the north on the fighting, which shattered a Russian-brokered midnight Thursday ceasefire signed in Moscow between northern Foreign Minister Mohammad Salem Basendwa and a senior official of the breakaway south, Salem Saleh Mohammad.
