Yaroslavl Center Urged

MOSCOW () -- Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin on Monday urged the setting up of a state automobile engine factory in Yaroslavl to produce competitive engines for cars and buses, Interfax said.

Speaking to industry managers in the Yaroslavl region, 250 kilometers north of Moscow, Chernomyrdin promised state support for the project, adding that Russia's manufacturers making competitive products can always count on the government's support, Interfax reported.

Chernomyrdin also said that Russia must not become a dumping ground for outdated Western technology and urged industry managers to develop modern technologies of their own.
