GENEVA () -- World Trade Organization chief Peter Sutherland will visit Moscow this week for talks with Russian officials on their country's application to join the new body, officials said Tuesday.
They said Sutherland, who headed the old General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and holds the WTO post on an interim basis, would see Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin and other top officials Thursday.
Diplomats said Sutherland was likely to stress that unless economic reform continued despite the conflict in Chechnya, Russia's chances of joining would be seriously damaged.
