World's Strongest Dies

VIDALIA, Georgia () -- Paul Anderson, once recognized as the strongest man in the world, has died at a Vidalia hospital after a long struggle with kidney failure and arthritis.


He was 61 when he died Monday. Anderson set nine world records and 18 American records in weightlifting in the 1950s. Anderson won a gold medal in the 1956 Olympics at Melbourne, Australia, and set three Olympic records. He is the last American heavyweight to win an Olympic gold medal.
