Williams Swats Another

CHICAGO () -- Matt Williams, whose run at Roger Maris' single-season home-run record may be ended by a baseball strike, belted his major league-leading 43rd homer and drove in three runs to power the San Francisco Giants to a 5-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

The Giants completed a sweep of the three-game series Wednesday after losing their previous six games. The loss was the fourth in a row and eighth in nine games for the Cubs.

Williams homered to center field off loser Willie Banks (8-12) to lead off the second inning. Williams chance of matching Maris' 61 homers could end with an August 12 walkout.
