Wife Sellers Get Death

BEIJING () -- Eleven people have been sentenced to death in China for kidnapping young women and selling them as wives to farmers in poor villages, an official press report said Tuesday.

It was the most serious kidnapping case yet in China, Women's News said. The case involved 102 women from western Szechwan province who were sold for 800 yuan ($94) to 4,500 yuan to farmers in poor villages in other provinces. The women were lured from markets and railway stations to hotels, with promises of work in the medicine and clothing businesses, and then taken to distant villages, Women's News said.
