Watch to Honor Kholodov

Moscow's First Clock Factory has produced a watch carrying a portrait of Dmitry Kholodov that will be awarded to journalists as a prize for covering war, corruption or the fight against organized crime, a top official for the journalists' union said Friday.

Kholodov, a Moskovsky Komsomolets reporter, was investigating corruption in the army when he was killed Oct. 17 by a briefcase bomb.

Vladimir Sukhamlinov, first deputy head of the International Confederation of Journalists' Unions, said 100 watches had been ordered two weeks after the reporter's murder. "The first 12 watches will be granted to journalists showing exceptional courage and professionalism, at an annual international competition in honor of Kholodov," he said.

"It was a very sad order and I hope there will be no more such orders in future," said the head of the watch factory's sales department.
