Ukrainian Voters Leave 44 Vacancies

KIEV -- Monday's results from final voting to fill Ukraine's parliament leave the assembly with 44 of its 450 seats vacant.

Low voter turnout Sunday invalidated one of the three contested seats and demonstrated voter weariness in regions that have been asked to vote no less than eight times this year.

In contests for 56 seats this year, only 12 have satisfied tough electoral rules demanding a 50 percent turnout.

The majority conservative and Communist-dominated parliament will work with just 406 legislators until fresh elections next spring.
