Ukraine Train Sabotage

LVIV, Ukraine () -- Extortionists who caused a train to derail in a mountainous region of western Ukraine on Wednesday are demanding $50,000 to prevent a repeat performance, Itar-Tass said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, but the accident caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage, the news agency said.

The saboteurs dismantled rails along a sector of track near the city of Lviv, sending a locomotive and two freight cars off the tracks and tearing up dozens of meters of railbed.

The extortionists left a note saying, "If you do not want this event to be repeated, pay $50,000. We will inform you of the place later.''
