Ukraine Says Gore to Visit

KIEV -- U.S. Vice President Al Gore is scheduled to visit Ukraine on Aug. 2 at the invitation of recently elected President Leonid Kuchma, the presidential administration said Wednesday.

Gore is scheduled to meet Kuchma during the one-day official working visit to discuss U.S.-Ukrainian cooperation.

Ukraine is the fourth-largest recipient of U.S. aid after Israel, Egypt and Russia, and this year is to receive $700 million.

Kuchma, who won a decisive victory over incumbent Leonid Kravchuk three weeks ago, met Gore in April during a private visit to Washington as a potential presidential candidate.

The one-day visit will come after a visit to Poland, where Gore wil meet Presisent Lech Walesa and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Warsaw uprising.
