SEATTLE, Washington () -- Donald Treadgold, a widely read author and scholar on Russian history, has died at age 72.
Treadgold, a University of Washington history professor, died last Tuesday of acute leukemia. He developed the ailment while revising one of his major books, "The History of Christianity," said Peter Sugar, a professor of East European history who worked with Treadgold for 35 years at the university.
Treadgold's other books include "Twentieth Century Russia," "The West in Russia and China" and "Freedom: A History." He also was a longtime editor of the Slavic Review.
