Tough Time for Grain

MOSCOW () -- Russia's draft 1995 budget, approved on a first reading last month, could lead to grain imports of 25 to 30 million tons, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zaveryukha said Monday.

Zaveryukha, lobbying for extra cash for agriculture, told Interfax that the budget draft put farmers "in an impossible situation, especially when it comes to preparing for spring field work."

Russia imported only about 3 million tons last year, down from 10 million in 1993.
