President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin made no public comments Tuesday on the first anniversary of the disaster at the Sayano-Shushenskaya dam, but local officials attended a memorial ceremony in the republic of Khakasia, RIA-Novosti reported.
The safety and control systems at the dam have been fixed and are functioning “in a stable mode,” the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Atomic Inspection said Tuesday.
But the hydropower plant's operations are still not fully restored, and no one has been charged over the incident, which killed 75 people and flooded the station's premises, damaging all 10 of the generating units at the plant, which is the biggest in Russia and fourth-biggest in the world.
