Swedish Police Aid

STOCKHOLM () -- Sweden on Thursday promised training and assistance to Russian police and border guards to help fight organized crime in the St. Petersburg region.

"The fight against organized crime and the establishment of effective border control are important parts of our common security approach around the Baltic Sea," Foreign Aid Minister Pierre Schori said in a statement. Thursday's weekly cabinet meeting decided to give 1.0 million crowns ($133,300).

"The Swedish aid will mostly be used for training. Experts from the national police will conduct courses in such areas as forgery and detection techniques," the ministry said.
