Subsidies to Help Tuva

MOSCOW -- President Boris Yeltsin, on a visit Thursday to the Siberian republic of Tuva, promised large subsidies to the republic including 14 billion rubles for a sheepskin coat factory and 2.5 billion rubles for the construction of a new national museum, Interfax reported. In a speech to Tuva leaders, Yeltsin said that the economic situation in Tuva was much worse than in the rest of the country and that the republic could not survive on its own, Interfax said. "Russia must help revive the Tuva republic and its people," he said.
