Stastny to St. Louis

Peter Stastny, the future Hall of Fame center who captained the Slovakian team at the Lillehammer Olympics last month, signed a contract to play for the St. Louis Blues, the club has announced.

Stastny, 37, who was second among all scorers at the Olympics with five goals and four assists in nine games, became a free agent at the end of last season when the New Jersey Devils elected not to offer him a new contract.

The former Quebec Nordique and Czechoslovak National star has 444 goals and 777 assists for 1,221 points in 954 National Hockey League games. He played the first nine-plus seasons of his NHL career with Quebec, scoring more than 100 points seven times with five 40-goal seasons.
