MOSCOW () -- Vadim Kozin, 92, a singer who gained fame in the 1930s and whose fans called him "The Nightingale," died Monday in Russia's Far East.
Kozin became popular in the 1930s with hits such as "Autumn's Transparent Morning" and "Your Friendly Look, So Simple and Tender."
In 1944 Kozin was arrested and sentenced to eight years in a gulag camp in Kolyma in northern Russia. After his release Kozin refused on principle to return to Moscow, instead settling in Magadan, where he lived until his death
