Schumacher Will Appeal

LONDON -- World championship leader Michael Schumacher will appeal against a two-race ban from Formula One, allowing him to race in this weekend's German Grand Prix, his Benetton team said Thursday.

Organizers at Hockenheim had feared the absense of the German driver this weekend would enrage home fans

Schumacher's punishment was inflicted Tuesday by an International Automobile Federation disciplinary hearing in Paris, but officials said then it would be suspended if Schumacher lodged an appeal.

The federation imposed the ban, and fined Benetton $500,000, when Schumacher failed to obey a black flag order to stop after illegally overtaking Briton Damon Hill during the warm-up lap preceding the Silverstone race on July 10.
