Russia's Gold Is Steady

MOSCOW -- Russia expects gold output to be steady at around 150 tons this year, with up to 35 percent of production likely to be exported, the head of the state precious metals committee said Wednesday.

Yevgeny Bychkov said his committee, responsible for extracting and selling gems and precious metals, would export 25 percent of the 1994 production, with remaining exports in government hands.

Gold has been one of the few sectors of Russia' s ailing economy where output has not dropped. Bychkov said in May output could rise 1.5 fold by 2000
