Russian Soldier Shot

YEREVAN, Armenia () -- A Russian soldier was shot in the back and killed on a military base in the Armenian capital, officials said Tuesday.


The serviceman, Andrei Konovalov, 19, was leaving a standard duty post late Sunday night when he was shot.


Other officers hurried to the scene and rushed Konovalov to the hospital. He died in the hospital early Monday.


The commander in chief for Russian forces in Armenia, Major General Alexei Tretyakov, said an investigation was under way.
