Romanian in Car Deal

BUCHAREST -- A company owned by the Romanian businessman and former tennis star Ion Tiriac said Monday it will set up a 22 million Deutsche mark ($13.4 million) facility to produce parts for Mercedes-Benz cars in Romania. Delia Nica, trading boss at Tiriac's Auto ROM SRL, said the company, the authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer in Romania, will set up production lines for parts made of aluminum and wood. Tiriac put in one-third of the 22 million marks needed and Germany's Merced-es-Benz AG and Holz Industrie Bruchsal GmbH, which supplies wooden parts, invested the rest, Nica said. A furniture factory in Transylvania will be used for the line, which will start later this year employing 300 people. The factory in Codlea 200 kilometers north of Bucharest, is owned by Tiriac.
