Rock Hall Opens

CLEVELAND, Ohio () -- Rock 'n' roll celebrated its new shrine in Cleveland with a seven-hour concert that brought together the surviving royalty of rock's golden age and their heirs.


Chuck Berry and Bruce Springsteen, opening the concert Saturday with Berry's classic "Johnny B. Goode," had a near-capacity crowd of 57,000 on their feet at Cleveland Stadium. Millions more watched live on cable television.


Performers who joined in celebration of the greatest musical revolution of the century included Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, the Kinks, James Brown, Little Richard, Bob Dylan, Chrissie Hynde, John Fogerty and Jerry Lee Lewis.
