Retired FSB General Shot Dead in Car

The Moscow Times
A retired Federal Security Service general was shot to death in his car at 31 Leningradsky Prospekt in northern Moscow, investigators said Tuesday.

Major General Alexander Rogachyov was found by security guards in his Toyota Land Cruiser at about 6 p.m. on Sunday on the territory of the Young Pioneer stadium, the Investigative Committee said on its web site.

He had been shot once in the head with a 9 mm caliber handgun at close range, RIA-Novosti reported, citing a police source. The gunman is believed to have sat in the front of the vehicle next to Rogachyov when the shot was fired, the report said.

The motive for the killing is under investigation.

Rogachyov, 46, most recently worked as a private businessman, media reports said. He was the former husband of ex-Federation Council Senator Marina Rogachyova, who herself is the daughter of former Federation Council Speaker Yegor Stroyev, Interfax reported. Stroyev was dismissed by President Dmitry Medvedev as the governor of the Oryol region earlier this month.
