TALLINN () -- Seven people were taken to the hospital Friday after a radioactive object was found in a house near the Estonian capital, officials said.
The Estonian Rescue Department said Friday that 100 roentgens of radioactivity per hour had been measured at the house in Kiisa, a small town 40 ilometers south of Tallinn.
Rescuers were called after a 13-year-old boy was taken to the hospital Thursday night with what doctors diagnosed as radiation burns. The boy's dog had died suddenly just before, police said.
Officials said the radioactive object, which they found in a toolbox in the house's kitchen, had turned out to be a small stick of bronze-colored metal, measuring 2 by 3 centimeters.
