Racer Critically Injured

HOCKENHEIM, Germany -- Doctors held out little hope of saving British motorcycle racer Simon Prior, who suffered severe brain damage in a crash at the German Grand Prix. "There's very little hope that he will survive but for the moment he is still alive," said Dr. Michael Quintel on Monday, chief of intensive care at the Mannheim University Clinic. Prior, 40, was riding Sunday in a sidecar attached to a motorcycle ridden by Yoshi Kumagaya of Japan when another team went off the circuit, then veered back onto the track. He sustained multiple injuries and fell into a coma.
