Purged: 200,000 Clergy

MOSCOW () -- More than 200,000 clergymen were exterminated in dictator Josef Stalin's purges, a human rights campaigner has said.

Vladimir Naumov, secretary of a presidential commission on rehabilitating victims of political repression, told Interfax on Saturday that another 300,000 suffered some sort of repression during Stalin's long reign.

He said the commission will make a recommendation that President Boris Yeltsin issue official pardons, rehabilitating the survivors and entitling the families of the dead to compensation.
