Pretoria Rejoins UN

JOHANNESBURG-- Foreign Affairs Minister Alfred Nzo traveled to New York on Thursday to formally reclaim South Africa's seat in the UN General Assembly. The seat has been vacant for 20 years, since the UN refused South Africa's credentials in 1974 as part of an international protest of apartheid policies of racial discrimination. A formal invitation to occupy the seat again came after the nation's first all-race election in April set up a democratic government led by President Nelson Mandela and his African National Congress
