Premier Steps Down

BEIRUT () -- Lebanon's billionaire Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri said Friday he was resigning, two years after he took over to rebuild the country from the ruins of civil war.

A source close to the Sunni Moslem construction tycoon earlier cited a deep clash with parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who has refused to give him a free hand to push his reconstruction plans forward.

But Hariri's office also complained that he and his government were victims of a misleading media and political campaign.
