Pilot Ignored Warnings

ANKARA, Turkey () -- A Turkish Airlines pilot drew criticism Friday for crashing his jetliner in a snowstorm despite repeated warnings from the control tower to turn back.


The death toll in Thursday's crash rose to 55 after an injured passenger died in hospital Friday, state radio said. Twenty-one people were injured. Most of the passengers were military personnel flying from Ankara to the city of Van, about 80 kilometers west of Iran.


The Boeing 737 crashed on its third attempt to land. The pilot died in the crash.
