Payton Can't Miss as Sonics Stop Cavs

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Gary Payton has turned in the most accurate shooting performance in Seattle team history, going 14-of-14 from the floor as the SuperSonics stopped Cleveland's 11-game winning streak by beating the Cavaliers 116-85.
Payton scored 32 points Wednesday night and beat Lonnie Shelton's team record of 13 shots without a miss set in 1979 against Cleveland. Wilt Chamberlain holds the NBA record of 18-for-18.
Detlef Schrempf scored 20 and Kendall Gill had 13 for the Sonics, who shot 61 percent from the field.
Knicks 89, Hawks 80. Lenny Wilkens missed on his third attempt to break Red Auerbach's coaching record.
The Knicks got their fourth straight win by holding the Hawks to one field goal in the final seven minutes. Atlanta was 2-of-13 from the field in the fourth quarter and was outrebounded 50-33.
Patrick Ewing led New York with 21 points and 11 rebounds and Derek Harper added 20 points. Mookie Blaylock paced the Hawks with 17 points and Ken Norman added 15.
Celtics 117, Heat 113, OT. David Wesley's 3-pointer with 15 seconds left in overtime put Boston ahead for good as the Celtics finished with a 12-1 run to beat Miami.
Miami got the first seven points of overtime to take a 112-105 lead before Wesley started the rally with a free throw. Boston drew to 113-111 on Dee Brown's 3-pointer with 1:06 to go, and Wesley then stole the ball from Khalid Reeves and fed Brown for the tying layup with 49 seconds to play.
Reeves missed two free throws with 33 seconds left before Wesley sank Boston's 11th 3-pointer of the game for a 116-113 lead. Miami's last chance failed when Glen Rice missed a 3-pointer with 6 seconds to play. Brown added a free throw with 2.7 seconds remaining.
Magic 113, Nets 110. Anfernee Hardaway scored 33 points and led Orlando back from an 11-point third-quarter deficit.
The Magic trailed by 11 in the third period before using an 11-2 run to close to 82-80 at the end of the quarter. They finally tied the Nets at 102-all when Nick Anderson scored a driving layup with 3:44 left.
Hornets 118, Trail Blazers 106. Scott Burrell made four of Charlotte's six 3-pointers in the third quarter as the Hornets pulled away.
It was the Hornets' first home victory ever against Portland, which was the last NBA team to have won all its games at Charlotte Coliseum.
Alonzo Mourning led Charlotte with 28 points.
Pacers 94, Bullets 90.Reggie Miller scored 17 of his 20 points in the first half as Indiana won its 10th straight at home.
Indiana, which led by as many as 20 in the third quarter, survived a fourth-quarter rally by the Bullets. After Rik Smits missed two foul shots with 43 seconds left, Gheorghe Muresan missed an off-balance jumper that would have got Washington within one. Derrick McKey hit a free throw with 16 seconds remaining and Scott Skiles missed a layup for Washington with 4 seconds on the clock.
Bulls 86, Nuggets 80. B.J. Armstrong scored the game's final 6 points, including a tiebreaking jumper with 1:46 to play as Chicago blew a 21-point lead but still defeated Denver.
Scottie Pippen scored 21 points, Toni Kukoc 20 and Armstrong 18 for the Bulls, who have their first three-game winning streak of the season. Dikembe Mutombo scored 18 points, including two free throws with 2:06 left that pulled Denver into an 80-all tie.

Suns 127, 76ers 122. Charles Barkley scored 14 of his 35 points in the final eight minutes, helping Phoenix avoid a second straight home loss. Barkley also had six of his 14 rebounds in the final period, and his 10-footer in the lane made it 123-120, the Suns' biggest lead since the second quarter.
