MOSCOW () -- Russian oil output this year dropped 13 percent below levels from the corresponding period in 1993, Itar-Tass reported Friday.

Oil production for the first eight months of 1994 totaled 202 million metric tons, the agency said, citing a Russian State Statistics Committee report.

The major Nizhnevolzhskneftegaz amalgamation reported a 16 percent output increase this year, however, and output at the Saratovneftegaz and Orenburgneft fields remained at the same level as in 1993.
