Officer Rescues Drunk

A Russian police lieutenant has been commended for intercepting a drunk who staggered into the path of President Boris Yeltsin's speeding motorcade in St. Petersburg last week, Itar-Tass said on Monday.

The quick-witted officer seized the drunk and pulled him back onto the pavement on Saturday just seconds before the black limousine carrying the president sped by.

The president was on his way to the opening of the Goodwill Games sports tournament.
