Norway Wins Nordic

LILLEHAMMER, Norway () -- Norway beat Japan by 28.2 seconds in the final cross-country ski portion Wednesday to win a two-man World Cup Nordic combined sprint relay.

Bjarte Engen Vik and Halldor Skard clocked 35 minutes, 41.8 seconds. It was the second World Cup victory of the season for Vik and Skard, who also prevailed at Reit im Winkl, Germany.

Takonori Kono and Kenji Ogiwara, who won a gold medal on Japan's three-man team in the Winter Olympics here a year ago, took Tuesday's opening ski-jumping portion, but couldn't match the much stronger Norwegians in the 15-kilometer cross-country race.

Ryan Heckman and Todd Lodwick, both from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, finished 2:01.1 behind for third.
