Solidarity Member Beaten



A senior member of the opposition movement Solidarity was beaten in Moscow, Kasparov.ru reported.

Stanislav Yakovlev was attacked by unidentified young men near the All-Russia Exhibition Center after speaking at an opposition rally Sunday. The attackers told Yakovlev they were beating him in part for his activities in Solidarity, which is headed by Sochi mayoral candidate Boris Nemtsov. (MT)




Drunk Ride on Red Square



Three Moscow police officers have been fired for drunk driving in Red Square, police said Monday.

The intoxicated officers took a sport-utility vehicle onto the famous cobbled square on Friday morning, police said in a statement.

The three were relieved of their posts for "disgracing the honor and dignity" of the police. No other details were given. (AP)
