New Poll Low for Tories

LONDON () -- Britain's Conservatives on Friday notched up a record as the most unpopular government since Gallup started polling more than 50 years ago.


To make matters worse, the sounding was taken in November -- before Prime Minister John Major's shaky authority was further eroded by a defeat on a key budget measure this week.


The left-of-center Labour Party has 61 percent support, 39.5 points ahead, in the poll conducted throughout November for the pro-Conservative Daily Telegraph. The Conservatives, registered 21.5 percent support and the centrist Liberal Democrats 13.5 percent.
