New Kazakh Premier

ALMATY, Kazakhstan () -- Kazakhstan's parliament approved a new prime minister Wednesday, after the government resigned amid economic turmoil.


Akezhan Kazhegeldin, former vice prime minister of the cabinet, will replace his former boss Sergei Tereshchenko, Interfax said. President Nursultan Nazarbayev selected Kazhegeldin and parliament approved the appointment, with 132 of 141 voting members supporting him.


Kazhegeldin, an economist with experience as the director of a joint-stock company and in local politics.


Nigmadzhan Isingarin, the former trade and industry minister, will become first deputy prime minister.
