New Aeroflot Engines

MOSCOW () -- Russian international carrier Aeroflot plans to buy foreign-built power plants for 14 of its Ilyushin Il-86 four-engined airliners and thereby increase their range, a senior airline official said Wednesday.

Aeroflot technical director Gennady Anikayev said the airline would replace inefficient Russian engines with those made by the CFM consortium, a joint venture of U.S. firm General Electric and France's SNECMA.
