Nevzorov Reprieved

MOSCOW -- Russian Public Television, or ORT, decided Friday not to drop Alexander Nevzorov's controversial weekly show "Wild Field," despite Thursday's decision by the Kremlin's media-watchdog body recommending that the show be taken off the air.

The Chamber for Information Disputes under President Boris Yeltsin asked ORT to get rid of "Wild Field" because of an episode about lesbianism in a women's prison. The inmates complained that they had been filmed without permission and slandered.

ORT spokesman Alexei Pushkov told Itar-Tass that the company had discussed the program with Nevzorov but decided not to break off his contract.
