Navy Issues a Warning

MURMANSK, Russia () -- A navy commander Friday warned that the Russian navy might use military force against any future intruders into Russian waters.

Rear Admiral Boris Sannikov told Itar-Tass that the Northern Fleet may "use combat arms" if there was a repeated attempt to trespass in Russian territorial waters.

The warning came two days after Russian anti-submarine patrols in the Barents Sea tracked a foreign submarine for several hours, finally forcing it to leave Russia's territorial waters.

Sannikov said he had proof that the submarine was a U.S. Navy vessel, but the United States has denied that the submarine was theirs.
