Maradona Stays Home

Diego Maradona was missing from the Argentina squad which arrived in Recife for a friendly international against Brazil despite having been selected by coach Alfio Basile. Team sources said Maradona had stayed in Buenos Aires on Monday for a check-up at a clinic but it was not clear whether the temperamental 33-year-old would turn up later.

Sources said he was expected to arrive Tuesday but Argentine journalists said he was almost certainly not fit enough to play and would be unlikely to make the trip just to watch.

Maradona was surprisingly included in the squad despite being without a club since his sacking by Newell's Old Boys last month.
