Limonov to Form New Party

Opposition leader Eduard Limonov said Tuesday that he planned to transform The Other Russia coalition into a new political party ahead of the 2011 State Duma elections.

“The Other Russia coalition is long defunct. Its executive committee has held no meetings in the last six months,” Limonov said, Interfax reported. “We think we have inherited this brand.”

He said the coalition had enough members to qualify as a party. The law requires a party to have no fewer than 45,000 members.

“We will hold a congress on July 10 in Moscow [and] file an application for the party’s registration,” Limonov said.

“It will be an obstacle, regardless of whether the authorities allow for it to be registered.”
