Latvia Names Coalition

RIGA () -- Conservative politician Andrejs Krastins announced a new Latvian coalition government Friday and vowed to push ahead with the Baltic republic's drive to achieve closer ties with Western Europe.

Krastins, a member of the National Conservative Party, formed his cabinet without members of Latvian Way, the largest party in parliament with 34 seats.

This could cause problems when parliament takes a special vote on Aug. 18 on whether to approve the cabinet, which will serve until a new parliamentary election is held in October 1995.
