CHICAGO () -- The U.S. Soccer Federation has confirmed that it will loan defender Alexi Lalas to Padova of the Italian League for one year. Lalas, 24, will become the first American-born player in the league, the most competitive and highly paid soccer circuit in the world. ANSA, the Italian news agency, reported Wednesday that Padova would pay the USSF a $200,000 transfer fee and Lalas would get a one-year contract worth about $200,000.
