Kremlin Walls to Fall

MOSCOW -- The Kremlin walls that once hosted "an unholy Sabbath" of "dark forces" are coming down for good. The newspaper Segodnya reported Saturday that President Boris Yeltsin has ordered the reconstruction of the meeting hall of the Great Kremlin Palace, where the former Congress of People's Deputies convened until 1993 and the site of some of Russia's high political dramas of recent years. After Yeltsin stormed out of the Congress in 1992, his spokesman, Vyacheslav Kostikov, called the legislature's meeting an "unholy Sabbath." Later, when the Congress tried to impeach Yeltsin in March 1993, Kostikov said that the president's enemies drew their strength "from the dark forces in these halls."
