Kostikov to Vatican

President Boris Yeltsin's press secretary, Vyachaslav Kostikov, has been appointed Russian ambassador to the Vatican, Interfax reported Friday, citing "reliable sources in the Russian Foreign Ministry."

Kostikov is to replace Yury Karlov, who has been ambassador to the Holy See since 1990. Kostikov was asked by the President Boris Yeltsin to resign last fall as soon as he found a replacement. There has been no announcement, however, of a replacement for Kostikov.
