Chechen authorities on Thursday abducted a human rights advocate in Moscow who has been critical of Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, the Memorial rights group said.
Arbi Khachukayev was detained by Chechen security officers who were trying to fly him to Grozny against his will, Memorial said in a statement. It learned about his abduction when he was being taken to Vnukovo Airport.
The Chechen Interior Ministry said Khachukayev was detained on suspicion of involvement in an armed assault, RIA-Novosti reported.
