Jet Crash Kills One

MOSCOW () -- A small passenger jet crashed shortly after takeoff early Thursday, killing one person and injuring at least five others, emergency officials said. The German-owned Learjet-35, bound for Magnitogorsk in the Ural Mountains, crashed shortly after midnight at Sheremetyevo-2, Moscow's main international airport, said Karl Smolikov, a spokesman for the Emergency Situations Ministry.

The crash of the twin-engine jet killed the pilot and trapped the co-pilot in the cockpit until rescuers freed him. The co-pilot and one passenger were hospitalized; three passengers were treated at the scene, Smolikov said.
