MICHIGAN CITY, Indiana -- Officials were trying to unravel how four inmates sawed through bars on their death-row cells and obtained weapons for an abortive breakout at the same institution where John Dillinger's gang once shot their way out.
The group were all captured Monday inside the Indiana State Prison.
A prison official said it appeared the four used hacksaw blades to saw off bars at the bottom of their cell doors and wriggled out underneath.
